COBLA DE CAMBRA DE CATALUNYA «Pau Casals - Sardanes»

The Association Músics per la Cobla has been carrying out for more than 25 years an important work in the specialty of sardana music and other works written for the cobla instrumental ensemble and its characteristic instruments. The work of the Association is based on the recovery of the heritage of this music, its codification, archiving and dissemination. The result, to date, is that its archive already contains more than 40,000 musical documents.

With this musical capital and the human resources currently available to the Músics per la Cobla Association, they have been able to complete many projects for the dissemination of all this music that they have in the archive. We will mention some important achievements in the aspect of diffusion, such as the recordings dedicated to the complete works for cobla of Juli Garreta, Joaquim and Josep Serra, as well as some twenty monographic CD's on the music for cobla of the most important composers of Catalonia.

COBLA DE CAMBRA DE CATALUNYA «Pau Casals - Sardanes»

As the fiftieth anniversary of the death of Maestro Pau CASALS will take place in 2023, they have a special reason to present the result of the project, started more than 10 years ago, aimed at recovering the sardanas and other music that the Maestro wrote, both as a specific creation and as part of other works, and which had an instrumented version for cobla. The project was completed with the corresponding phonographic recordings of them.

It has been the work of his team, which has been carried out in his archive, doing research, analyzing the materials obtained, computer editing and making transcriptions. A work that culminates with the recording that we now present and that contains six sardanas for cobla and two compositions.

The prestigious maestro Antoni Ros Marbà has conducted the recording, leading the Cobla de Cambra de Catalunya. A cobla formed with instrumentalists chosen among the best of Catalonia.

The musical artistic level of his work was complemented by an ad hoc musicological study. Doctors in Musicology Albert Fontelles-Ramonet and Anna Costal i Fornells, specialists in the study of Catalan music and cobla musicians, received one of the Research Grants of the Pau Casals 2023 Chair to carry out a study on this specific subject within the Maestro's work.
